Excellence on manufacturing process: from API to filling

INTRODUZIONE

The two day meeting, hosted at the Stabilimento Chimico Farmaceutico Militare (SCFM) in Florence, will explore current and emerging practices across the pharmaceutical manufacturing chain—from API production to aseptic filling. The program includes institutional and regulatory perspectives, with contributions from SCFM and invited representatives from AIFA. A dedicated session will address the updated PDA Technical Report 22, focusing on process simulation for aseptically filled products and recent evolutions in contamination control strategy and aseptic processing.

Day-1 combines regulatory insights, presentations on supply?related topics such as API shortages and essential medicines availability, and an overview of technical and regulatory innovations in medical cannabis manufacturing. The afternoon features sponsor technology sessions and a panel discussion chaired by former AIFA GMP inspectors.

Day-2 focuses on engineering and automation for aseptic manufacturing, including robotized filling solutions, primary packaging technologies, and approaches to equipment revamping, scale?up, and small?batch production. The program also includes a historical overview of SCFM and a guided tour of the facility and temporary exhibition, followed by a final expert panel discussion.

The event is structured to encourage exchange between industry, regulators, academia, and technology providers through scientific sessions, panel discussions, sponsor interactions, and networking moments.
